Sulphur Tuft

Dense sulphur-yellow clusters on stumps all year. Very common, very bitter, and toxic.
Poisonous. Causes violent vomiting and, rarely, serious liver damage. The bitterness usually prevents anyone eating much.

Identification
- Cap
- 2-7cm, sulphur-yellow with a tawny centre, smooth, in tight clusters.
- Gills / pores
- Crowded, sulphur-yellow becoming greenish then purple-brown.
- Stem
- Slender, yellow, curved, often with a dark ring zone.
- Flesh
- Yellow, very bitter.
- Spore print
- Purple-brown.
- Smell & taste
- Bitter taste, faint smell.
Lookalikes
Honey Fungus and Brick Tuft. The greenish-yellow gills and bitter taste are diagnostic.
